Marcos A. Rivera, M.A.

Title:  Director of Student Success Initiatives

Areas of responsibility:  Oversight of College 101 (First Year Experience course) and instructor of course; The Graduate Assistants Progam; Because We Care (Early-Alert Response Team); and Absence Notification Correspondence. Also assist in coordinating the Contract for Academic Success Mentor pilot program. 

College Education:  Earned both his bachelor of Liberal Studies and Master of Arts in Guidance & Counseling from Bowling Green State University. 

Prior experience includes working for a duration of 12 years at Bowling Green State University (93-05) as Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs, Assistant Director for Academic Enhancement and then as Co-Director for the Office of Student Academic Achievement.  In 2005-07, worked at Purdue University as part-time Director of Diversity Initiatives for the College of Education that included academic advising, recruitment and retention initiatives.  Also worked for the Center for Career Opportunities as a Career Consultant in a full-time role.

Originally from San Francisco, Marcos moved to Lorain, Ohio and then spent most of his life pursuing his college education and subsequent career in higher education in Bowling Green, while starting a family of two daughters and a son.  His wife, Carmen Castro-Rivera, is the Associate Director for Admission at Baldwin-Wallace College.
