Varsity Cheerleading Coach Sami Gougler '05

Sami Gougler is in her second season as the head cheerleading and performance team coach at Baldwin-Wallace College in 2008-2009. Sami took over the program for Amy Hafner a year ago and continued the success that Amy and the program had for the previous three seasons.

Prior to taking over the program at the end of the summer in 2007, Sami served as the assistant under Hafner, so her transition to the head coaching position was both natural and seamless.   “I am excited to take on the challenge of continuing the successful work that Coach Hafner began three years ago.  I am also very lucky to have Julie Wunn, a 2007 graduate and former B-W cheerleader as my assistant coach.  We have a great working relationship and we both want to see the program grow to new heights.”

Sami graduated from B-W in December of 2005 after receiving her bachelor's degree in broadcasting and mass communications.  Since graduation, Sami has spent three years working in sales for both Ryan Homes and Paychex.

Sami began her cheerleading career in the fifth grade at Saint Therese in Garfield Heights.  During her high school career at Garfield Heights, she began participating in competition cheerleading and dance line.  She continued cheerleading as a student at B-W after transferring from Ohio University.  Sami was named captain of the Yellow Jacket squad as an upperclassman.  While she was at B-W, Sami also coached grade school cheerleading for St. Monica's in Garfield Heights for two years.  To reach Sami Gougler, please e-mail her at samibwcheer@yahoo.com.

Assistant Cheerleading Coach Julie Wunn '07

Julie was a member of an all-star cheerleading team from fourth through 12th grade. She also cheered all four years at Brunswick High School and taught cheerleading summer camps for two years after high school.  While attending B-W, she cheered every season and took on the responsibilities of captain her junior and senior years.

Julie is looking forward to another great year coaching at B-W. "The girls are wonderful to work with! I am always excited to come to practice to see what we can accomplish. They love to be challenged and I admire their strong work ethic to be the very best that they can. These girls are true leaders on and off the field. Coaching them is extremely rewarding. I am always very proud of their accomplishments."
