Marcy Hunt-MorsePh.D, Director. I am a licensed psychologist and currently serve as Counseling Services  Director. I've worked in a number of clinical settings, but have always found college counseling and my work with students to be most rewarding.  College is a time of discovery and I enjoy sharing in student's journey toward self-awareness and growth. As a psychologist I am trained in a wide variety of personal and career issues that you may experience. My areas of special interest include: eating disorders, depression and anxiety, sexual assault and abuse, relationships, and women's issues. Some of my passions outside of work are being in nature (hiking, biking, kayaking, and running), travel, and cooking. I look forward to connecting with you during your college experience. Please be in touch...

Gerald Hayes, Psy.D, Assistant Director. I am a licensed clinical  psychologist with experiences in a variety of clinical settings such as community mental health centers, hospitals, universities, and private practice.  As the Assistant Director to Counseling Services, I am very involved in supporting B-W's efforts to enhance its ability to meet the needs of students, faculty and staff  through outreach, consultation, supervision and the provision of counseling.  Some of my professional interests include issues around spirituality, diversity, deaf culture, psychological testing, and clinical supervision.  I strongly  value and support the ability of an individual to make choices and consider it a privilege to be able to be a part of that process in another's life.  On a personal note, I love spending time with my family and friends.  I enjoy playing guitar and writing music when I get the chance.

Theresa Novak, M.Ed., PC Counselor... Life will bring us both joy and sorrow and it's what we choose to do with it that matters. In addition to the joy and sorrow, we may find the journey of life to be confusing and isolating and counseling can help. I want nothing more than to walk with you through the confusion and discovery. I consider counseling a privilege, and believe that respect of every individual is a must. Don't hesitate, just call whether you have a problem or if you just want to work through what life means to you personally. I have a wide range of interests which include grief and loss, multicultural issues and issues related to adjustment, spirituality, women, relationships, and identity. On a personal note, I'm a social creature so spending time with family and friends is important to me. I love to cook and bake, and when I have time, one of my favorite hobbies is cake decorating. Reading, exercising, the theater and music are some of the other things that bring me joy.

Renee Kolecki, M.Ed., PCC-S, Counselor.  I am a Professional Clinical Counselor with a Master's in Community Agency Counseling.  Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals at different developmental levels, from late childhood to adolescence to young adulthood and with families as they learn new ways to parent at these different levels.  I enjoy working with college students as they embark on an independent, adult path, incorporating their famly-life experiences with their own ideas and values.  I believe that emotional health and physical health are intertwined and I approach counseling from this holistic perspective.  My professional interests include stress management, depression and anxiety.  At home, I enjoy gardening, biking, movies, good food and spending time with family and friends.

Alia Lawlor, Counselor.  I'm very happy to be returning to BW as a member of the counseling staff.  I love working with college students (regardless of age) because it is such a pivotal time, and decisions made during this time often have a lasting impact on a person's life.  It's important to make those decisions thoughtful, conscious and as healthy as possible.  My counseling interests are varied and include women's issues, expression of self through work, anxiety issues, breathwork, meditation, gender, sexuality and general "trying to figure out what life is about and who I am" concerns.  I am also a freelance writer/instructional designer and a certified career management coach with a holistic approach to life work.  I am passionate about creativity and art and spend almost all of my free time creating in some form.

Briana Root, Intern... I am a clinical psychology doctoral student at Case Western Reserve University. A main theme across both my research and clinical work has been the relationship one has with the self during times of distress and the cultivation of compassionate and accepting attitudes toward the self.  My professional interests include interpersonal relationships, forgiveness, grief and loss, stress and coping, and spirituality.  Previously, I have worked in a community mental health setting as well as with young adults in intensive outpatient treatment for eating disorders. Personal pursuits that I enjoy include listening to music, meditation and completing craft projects.

Haley Downing, Intern...I am currently a doctoral student in counseling psychology at the University of Akron. I completed my master's in clinical-counseling psychology at Illinois State University, where I worked with individuals, groups, and families at a community mental health center. My professional interests include identity and vocational development, stage of life issues and the impact of social class on young adult and adolescent development. I enjoyed my undergraduate experience at a small liberal arts college and am excited to work in an environment so focused on their students' growth and well-being. I enjoy spending as much of my free time as I can with family (especially my niece and nephew) and friends; I also love being outdoors and am an avid reader.

Holly Gage, Intern...I am currently beginning my second year as a doctoral student at Cleveland State University in their Counseling Psychology program. I received my Masters degree in Community Counseling in 2007 from Cleveland State, and I am licensed as a Professional Counselor. In addition to starting my work at BW, I also work in community mental health where I primarily counsel adults, and have worked with children and adolescents, providing individual therapy, group counseling, and diagnostic assessments. My professional interests include coping with anxiety and depression, grief and loss issues, and stress management, as well as marriage and couples counseling. I am also involved in research with particular interest in the areas of professional ethics and work-family balance. In my free time, I enjoy traveling with my husband, boating in the summer months, exercising and watching sports, especially football!

Laura Walts, Intern.  I'm excited about the opportunity to be part of the counseling staff at BW where I may help students through changes and difficulties, as well as in making steps toward reaching their full potential.  I am currently finishing my Master's degree in Professional Counseling, and have been counseling in a private practice, as well as obtaining experience with veterans who have experienced trauma.  I will also be working at an inpatient substance abuse treatment center for women.  I've worked with young people of various ages through teaching experiences and in youth groups.  My professional interests include depression, stress and anxiety, trauma, discovering one's purpose, spirituality, and nutrition.  I marvel at each individual's unique personality and strengths, and am enthused about helping individuals along their path of self-discovery.  My personal interest include being outdoors and participating in various activities, going for walks, exercising, and attending my boys' many sporting events.  Being a mom of four boys, two teenagers (multiplied by all of their friends), I feel I have a pretty good understanding of guys, too.  I would consider it a privilege to work collaboratively with you, to help you reach your full potential!

MVC-041Fres.JPG Alan Castro, M.D., Psychiatrist. "I am a licensed psychiatrist working in the Counseling Center on a part-time basis.  I am originally from the Philippines where I obtained my medical degree.  I completed my residency training at Case Western Reserve- University Hospitals in 1997.  My training and interests include mood disorders, adjustment problems, and cross-cultural influence on mental health.  Because of the winning baseball team here in Cleveland, I decided to stay despite the cold weather.  I have found the students here at Baldwin-Wallace to be a great group of individuals who make working here so enjoyable."

Julie Dailey, RN, Office Manager. Some of you may recognize me from Health Services. I have worked as a nurse at B-W since 2004. I also earned a Psychology degree from B-W and really enjoyed my college experience here. Then I went to nursing school and became a Pediatric Nurse.
