Strategic Plan

In Pursuit of Excellence

Guiding Principles

This strategic plan is intended to be a living, dynamic document that serves as a guide for the future direction of Baldwin-Wallace College.  It recommends specific goals and strategies, and provides direction for members of the Baldwin-Wallace community to work together to fulfill our mission.

Baldwin-Wallace College has achieved considerable success since its founding more than one hundred and fifty years ago as a United Methodist Church related institution.  We enjoy an excellent reputation, record enrollments, considerable growth in the endowment, and the results of wise investments in our human and physical resources.  Now we must build a future on the foundation that has served us well for many years.

These are the principles that guided the strategic planning process.

  • Baldwin-Wallace will remain committed to the values of a liberal arts education and dedicated to excellence in all its educational programs for its undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Baldwin-Wallace will encourage and support a strong program in faculty development.
  • Baldwin-Wallace will uphold and support the principle of academic freedom.
  • Baldwin-Wallace will encourage and support a strong program in professional development for administrators and staff.
  • Baldwin-Wallace will maintain an appropriate balance between enrollment and resources that support the fulfillment of the College mission.
  • Baldwin-Wallace will create and support an intellectually and culturally diverse community of learning that enhances individual growth and development.
  • Baldwin-Wallace will explore and expand learning opportunities for students of all ages consistent with the mission and strengths of the College.
  • Baldwin-Wallace will encourage student participation in experiential learning accompanied by critical intellectual reflection to complement and support curricular offerings in a coherent manner.
  • Baldwin-Wallace will invite varied perspectives before setting a course of action that serves the College community.
  • Baldwin-Wallace will operate with a balanced operating budget annually.
  • Baldwin-Wallace will allocate resources to those programs and services that best fulfill the College’s mission and seek funding for such initiatives.
  • Baldwin-Wallace will continue to encourage and explore mutually beneficial partnerships within our community and region to help fulfill the mission of the College.
  • Baldwin-Wallace will develop and maintain a healthy co-curricular environment that recognizes the developmental value of student participation in clubs, organizations, athletics and the arts.
