BEREA, OHIO — Two Baldwin-Wallace College senior wrestling student-athletes, Jeremy Feador (North Olmsted) and Brian Haines (Amanda/ Teays Valley), were selected by the National Collegiate Wrestling Coaches Association as Division III All-American Scholars. The selections were announced during the pre-NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championship Tournament banquet in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Feador and Haines both recently ended outstanding four-year careers at B-W both in the classroom and on the wrestling mat. In addition, both capped their careers by wrestling well at the recent Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament. Feador, a political science and history major who hopes to teach history and be a historian, was the starting 174-pounder. Haines, a biology and neuroscience major who intends to go to medical school and study neurosurgery, was the starting 197-pounder.
Feador, who carries a 3.65 grade point average and was an Academic All-OAC selection as a junior in 2006-2007, ended his career with a 51-45 record and had 23 career falls. He highlighted his career by being named as the Most Valuable Wrestler at the 2007 John Summa Memorial Tournament and also captured the Most Pins Award (three in a total time of 4:46). The three-time OAC Wrestler of the Week had a 21-10 record as a junior and an 18-13 slate as a senior. In his final two years on the mat, he had 20 falls.
In the classroom, Feador won the John Summa Memorial Wrestling Prize in 2007, is a Dean’s List student, a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and tabbed as a Jacket Scholar.
Haines, who carries a 3.73 grade average, ended his career with a 28-30 record, including a solid 14-12 mark as a senior. During his senior campaign, Haines also was tabbed as an OAC Wrestler of the Week and won an individual title at the 2008 Summa Memorial Tournament.
In the classroom, Haines is a Dean’s List student, member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies and tabbed as a Jacket Scholar.
“We are extremely pleased for both Jeremy and Brian,” said veteran Yellow Jacket Head Coach Rich Fleming. “Both young men have been key contributors to our wrestling program during the past four years. The fact that both excell in the classroom and on the mat is exceptional. We are very proud of them. They are great leaders and have set a strong example for all of our wrestling student-athletes.”
In addition to both Feador and Haines being recognized in Cedar Rapids, senior 165-pounder Gino Russo (Northfield Center/ Nordonia) will compete for a national title. A year ago, Russo placed sixth to earn Division III All-America accolades. He enters the tourney as the two-time defending champ at 165 pounds.
