Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week Again and Wrestler Bryan Kmetz Earns Wrestler of the Week Honors
BEREA, OHIO - For the second time this winter, Baldwin-Wallace College junior basketball player Thad Davis (Elyria/ Open Door Christian School) has been named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Davis earned the honor for his efforts last week in games against OAC rivals Heidelberg College and Wilmington College. In addition, sophomore heavyweight Bryan Kmetz (Brunswick) was tabbed as the OAC Co-Wrestler of the Week.
Davis shared the basketball honor with Ohio Northern University center Mark Killian. Kmetz shared the wrestling honor with John Carroll University senir 184-pounder Mark Hawald.
Davis tallied two double-doubles last week in wins against Heidelberg (90-77) and Wilmington (76-60) as the B-W men improved to 12-5 overall and are tied for second place in the OAC at 7-3. Last Wednesday (Jan. 21) against Heidelberg, he had 17 points and a career-high 20 rebounds. In the Saturday's (Jan. 24) win at Wilmington, Davis had 16 points and 12 rebounds. He also had three assists, two steals and five blocked shots. Davis' two double-doubles give him nine this season.
For the season, Davis leads B-W in scoring at 19.8 points per game and leads the OAC in rebouding at 10.8 rpg. She enters Wednesday's home game against OAC arch-rival Mount Union College with 1,183 career points to rank 16th all-time in school history. Tip off on Wednesday against Mt. Union is set for 7:30 p.m.
Kmetz (Brunswick) had 1-0 record last week as he defeated Bryan Kennedy of Wilmington, 7-1, in his only match of the week. With his win, Kmetz is now 16-2 overall and is tied for the team-lead in victories. He is also 14-0 against Division III opponents. This week, the B-W wrestling team travels to Muskingum College for an OAC dual match on Tuesday (Jan. 27) and then travels to Elmhurst, Illinois on Saturday to compete at the Elmhurst College Al Hanke Invitational.
