BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's track team won its second straight meet title and the and women placed second at the annual Ohio Wesleyan University Marv Frye Invitational Meet in Delaware, Ohio on Friday (April 11).
The Yellow Jacket men finished with 126.5 points and edged second place Albion (Mich.) College by 1.5 points. There were 15 teams competing in the men's meet. The Yellow Jacket women scored 115 points and finished 17 points shy of first place Otterbein College and five points ahead of third place Denison University.
For the men, senior Dash McNeal (Crooksville) won the high jump with a career-best leap of 6'5", junior Alex Johnson (Berea/ Olmsted Falls) won the shot put with a throw of 47' 11.5" and senior Tim Budic (Eastlake North) won the 1500 meter run in 4:00.34.
For the women, junior Jennifer Southall (Willoughby South) won the 3000 meter steeplechase and qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet in late May with a time of 11:05.24, senior Lynn Katanik (Parma Padua) won the 5000 meter run in 17:54.11 and also qualified for the national meet and senior Tara Gruskiewicz (Williamsfield/ Pymatuning Valley) won the 800 meter run in 2:17.28.
The Yellow Jacket track teams will return to action next Friday and Saturday, April 18-19, when they travel to Westerville and Otterbein College on Friday (April 18) and Delaware and Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday (April 19) for the annual All-Ohio Intercollegiate Division III Championship Meet. The Yellow Jacket women are the defending champions.

Five National Qualifiers -- To date, the Yellow Jacket women have five team members qualified for the 2003 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet which will take place on May 22-24 at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. The qualifiers are Southall and senior Jessica Textoris (Akron/ Medina Highland) in the 3000 meter steeplechase, Katanik in the 5000 meter run, senior Sara Guba (Olmsted Falls/ Berea) in the javelin and Gruskiewicz in the 800 meter run. Textoris' time in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:57.54) ranked first in Division III entering the OWU Meet.
