BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened the 2003 spring season with some impressive performances at the annual Florida State University Early-Bird Meet in Tallahassee on Friday and Saturday, March 14-15. The FSU Meet was the culmination of the Yellow Jackets annual spring training trip that begins in Jacksonville, Florida and ends in Tallahassee.
At Florida State, senior distance ace Nicole Drouhard (Canfield/ Austintown Fitch) turned in the top performance as she and junior Tatum Gruskiewicz (Williamsfield/ Pymatuning Valley) placed first and second in the 10,000 meter run with times of 38:36.38 and 39:29.37, respectively.
In addition, junior Alex Johnson (Berea/ Olmsted Falls) was second in the shot put with a throw of 49-feet and 11.25 inches, fifth in the javelin at 177-feet and fifth in the discus at 148' 3". Others finishing in the top five included senior Tim Budic (Eastlake North) who was fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 9:40.55, senior Lynn Katanik (Parma/ Padua) was fifth in the 5000 meter run in 17:41.77; senior Sara Guba (Olmsted Falls) was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 116' 8.5", and Tatum Gruskiewicz was fifth in the women's steeplechase in 12:23.91.
The Yellow Jacket track teams will return to action this Saturday, March 22, when they travel to New Concord to compete at the annual Muskingum College Invitational Meet. Action is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
