Track Team Has Outstanding Individual Performances at the Annual Emory DIII Invitational

BEREA, OHIO - Four Baldwin-Wallace College men's and four women's track and field student-athletes traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to compete at the annual Emory University DIII Invitational Meet yesterday (March 22).  All eight had solid finishes.

Leading the way was senior Jessica Textoris (Akron/ Medina Highland) as she won the 3000 meter steeplechase and qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet with a time of 1:07.91.  Textoris' timing was less than one second off her school-record timing of 1:06.99, set a year ago.

Textoris was joined as an NCAA Div. III National Meet qualifier by senior Tara Gruskiewicz (Williamsfield/ Pymatuning Valley), who placed second in the 800 meter run in 2:16.04.  In addition for the women, junior Stacy Havaich (Austintown Fitch) was second in the 1500 meter run in 4:46.06 and junior Nikki Bell (McDonald) was second in the 400 meter dash in 59.60 seconds.

For the Yellow Jacket men, senior Tim Budic (Eastlake North) and sophomore Eric Schmuhl (Medina Senior) had the top two performances.  Budic placed third in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 9:30.06 and 15th in the 800 meter run in 1:59.50.  Schmuhl was third in the 110 meter high hurdles in 15.62 seconds.

In addition, senior Brad Geletka (Kirtland) was fourth in the 5000 meter run in 15:26.01, and junior Mike Roberts (Sandusky Perkins) was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles in 55.32 seconds and sixth in the 110 meter high hurdles in 16.14 seconds.

The Yellow Jacket track and field teams will be back in action next Saturday, March 29, when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio and Wilmington College to compete at the annual Ohio Athletic Conference Relay Meet.
