7th-Ranked B-W Men’s Soccer Team Falls 1-0 to Otterbein in Double OT

BEREA, OHIO -- The seventh-ranked (www.nscaa.com Division III national poll) Baldwin-Wallace College men’s soccer team fell 1-0 in double overtime to visiting Otterbein this evening (Saturday, October 11, 2008) in Berea.

The Yellow Jackets fall to 11-2 overall and 1-2 in the OAC. Otterbein moves to 4-5-2 overall and 1-2  in conference.  B-W returns to action at Ohio Northern on Wednesday, October 14 in Ada, Ohio.

The two sides played to a scoreless first half with B-W holding a 10-6 advantage in shots. The second half was more of the same as both sides attempted seven shots but were unable to find the back of the net. After a scoreless first overtime period the game seemed destined for a 0-0 tie. However, Otterbein’s Matthew Beckett had different plans as he scored from 10 yards out at the 107:53 mark of the second OT.

For the game, B-W was outshot 19-18 while both teams attempted six corner kicks.

In goal, junior Russ Mika (Medina/Senior) recorded seven saves and falls to 6-1 on the season. Otterbein’s David Dziedzicki stopped 10 shots in net for the Cardinals.

After 12 matches in 2008, the Yellow Jackets are led in scoring freshman forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina/ Senior) who has seven goals and a team-high 15 points.  Overall, four players have recorded double-digit points, including, sophomore forward Tyler Leister (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) and senior midfielder Andy Synk (Strongsville) who have 12 each.
