Division III Preseason All-American
BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College sophomore punter Kevin Soflkiancs (Middleburg Heights/ Midpark High School), who led the Ohio Athletic Conference and all of NCAA Division III in punting as a freshman, has been named as a first-team Division III preseason All-American in the Street & Smith’s College Football 2005 Yearbook and by d3football.com. The Yearbook went on sale on June 14.
As a freshman, Soflkiancs averaged 42.7 yards per punt in 55 attempts, including 20 that landed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. He had a season-long punt of 70 yards. He was a first-team All-OAC, first-team All-North Region and first-team All-American as selected by both The Football Gazette and Division III SID all-america teams.
In addition to being an outstanding football student-athlete, Soflkiancs is a fine student who carries a 3.5 grade point average and will be a candidate for ESPN THE MAGAZINE College Division Academic All-America accolades this fall.
"We are pleased that Kevin has received this honor," said fourth-year Yellow Jacket Head Coach John Snell. "Kevin had an outstanding freshman year both in the classroom and on the football field, and was a big help to our special teams.
"With a new season also brings new expectations," said Snell. "We are looking for Kevin to have another fine year academically and also to help our football program get better. We feel that Kevin has the ability to meet the challenge both in the classroom and on the football field."
Soflkiancs and the Yellow Jackets open preseason camp in Berea on August 10 and open the 2005 season on Saturday, September 3 against Allegheny (Pa.) College at The George Finnie Stadium at 6:30 p.m. Soflkiancs and B-W will be keeping a 39th straight winning season. The active seasonal winning streak is the second longest in ALL of college football.
