Baldwin-Wallace College Senior Defensive End Ryan Lewis is Selected to Play in the Aztec Bowl

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College senior defensive end Ryan Lewis (Holland/ Springfield High School) has been selected to play in the 2005 Aztec Bowl on December 17 in Toluca, Mexico.  The Aztec Bowl pits the NCAA Division III All-Stars against the Mexican Collegiate All-Stars.  The selection was made by the AFCA (American Football Coaches Association).

Lewis is one of the best defensive linemen to ever play at Baldwin-Wallace College.  He ended his career as a four-year varsity contributor and letterman and three-year starter.  B-W had a 28-14 record with one NCAA Playoff appearance with Lewis in the lineup.  Individually, Lewis had 167 career tackles, including a career-high 57 as a senior. He finished second all-time in school history with 28 quarterback sacks and 46 tackles for lost yardage.  His 12 QB sacks in 2005-2006 is the second most in a single season.  Lewis ended his career as a three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection.  As a senior, Lewis was first-team All-OAC and the OAC Paul Hoeremann Award winner, symbolic of the OAC's Most Valuable Defensive Lineman.

As a freshman in 2001-2002, Lewis played and then tore his ACLin  his first season of football   He did not earn a varsity letter.  Lewis played defensive end on the junior varsity team. 

As a red-shirt freshman in 2002-2003, Lewis played in all 10 games, including four starts, at defensive end. He had a key interception in a season-opening victory at Allegheny. Overall, Lewis had 19 tackles, including 10 solo stops and two pass deflections.

As a sophomore in 2003-2004, Lewis started at defensive end and was a key mainstay on the defensive line. He was a key starter on defense. Lewis had 45 total tackles, was second on the team with seven QB sacks and with 15 tackles for lost yardage. He was a second-team All-OAC selection.

As a junior in 2004-2005, Lewis started every game at defensive end and was the cornerstone of the defensive line.  Lewis led the team with nine sacks and finished the season with 46 tackles.  He was a second-team All-OAC selection for the second straight year, and a third-team All-North Region choice.

As a senior in 2005-2006, Lewis finished third on the team with 57 tackles, first with 12 QB sacks and first with 16 tackles for lost yardage. For his efforts, Lewis was a first-team All-OAC choice and the OAC's Hoernemann Award winner.

In addition to being an outstanding football player, Lewis is a solid student who carries a 3.1 grade point average in business administration.
