Banquet on January 11 in Berea
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College football team was honored at its annual awards social today (Sunday, January 11, 2004) in Berea. A total of 12 student-athletes were honored.
In 2003, the Yellow Jackets posted their most successful season since 1991 with a 10-2 overall record. B-W had its first 10-win season since 1991 and advanced to the NCAA Division III Playoffs for the first time since 1991, and the Yellow Jackets won their first NCAA Playoff game since 1978. In addition, B-W increased its seasonal winning streak to 37 straight year. The streak is the second longest in all of college football. The Yellow Jackets have not had a losing season since 1966.
Earning the top awards at the social were senior quarterback Dan Larlham (Brimfield/ Walsh Jesuit), senior All-American running back Mark Anders (North Olmsted), senior two-time All-American safety Greg Koch (Olmsted Falls) and senior All-American defensive end Nate Mitchell (Butler, Pennsylvania/ Butler). Larlham and Anders were the co-recipients of both the Ray E. Watts Most Valuable Offensive Player Award and the Bob Packard Most Outstanding Offensive Back Award. Koch and Mitchell shared theMost Valuable Defensive Player Award. In addition, Mitchell was the Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman Award winner.
In addition to the aforementioned quartet, senior All-American offensive guard Ian Formaz (Wadsworth) was named as the Dick Van Almen Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, sophomore Justin Pricehorn (Massillon Washington) was the Most Outstanding Linebacker, senior safety Jeff Fox (Willoughby South) was the Most Outstanding Defensive Back, junior All-American tight eend Nate Wilder (Youngstown Cardinal Mooney) received the Most Outstanding Receiver Award and senior punter Rob Becker (Dover) was tabbed as the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player. Also, senior safety Mike Martini (Bolivar/Tuscawras Valley) earned the Roy Seitz Yellow Jacket Award, senior defensive back Tom DeLuca (Norwalk Senior) earned the Eloise Tressel J-A-C-K-E-T Award and senior two-time Academic All-American offensive guard Joe Harbour (Upper Sandusky) received the Lee J. Tressel Academic Award.
