Offensive Player of the Week for the Third Time This Year
BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College senior running back Mark Anders (North Olmsted/ North Olmsted High School) has been named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. This week, Anders and the 8-1 overall and sixth-ranked Yellow jackets end the regular season with a game in Westerville at Otterbein College at 1:30 p.m.
In less than a quarter and a half of football last Saturday in a 57-15 win against OAC foe Marietta College, Anders rushed for 145 yards on just eight carries for an incredible 18.1 yards per carry and scored three three touchdowns. He scored on runs of 65, 18 and 32 yards. The 65-yarder was on B-W's first play from scrimmage. His 32-yarder was at the 12:28 mark of the second quarter and at that point, Anders took a seat on the bench for the rest of the day.
It has been a remarkable, record-breaking season for Anders. In 2003, Anders has rushed for a single-season school-record 17 TD and 1,021 yards in 140 attempts for 7.3 yards per carry. He is also second in receiving with 18 catches for 238 yards and three more TD. His 1,021 rushing yards, 1,370 all-purpose yards and 20 TD and 120 points lead the OAC.
In his B-W career, Anders has rushed for 2,187 to stand third all-time with 36 rushing TD in 349 attempts for a 6.5-yard average per carry. He also has 11 career 100-yard rushing days. He has also caught 41 passes for 518 yards and four TD, returned 30 kickoffs for 680 yards for a 22.7-yard average and one punt for five yards. His 40 total TD, 240 career points and 3,380 career all-purpose yards are all school career records.
With a victory at Otterbein on Saturday, B-W will then await word on Sunday from the NCAA Division III Selection Committee as to whether it will be selected for the 28-team Division III Playoff field. The selection process will take place on ESPN News between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. Locally in Berea and on Adelphia Cable, ESPN can be found on Channel 123.
