Alumni Weekend - Schedule

Special note for 2008 - All Alumni Weekend events will take place in the Lou Higgins Center due to renovations in Strosacker College Union.  The Lou Higgins Center is B-W's newly renovated academic and recreation center located at 136 East Bagley Road.

FRIDAY, MAY 16

1:00 - 6:00 p.m.  ALUMNI WEEKEND REGISTRATION & HOSPITALITY AREA - Lou Higgins Center, Harding Lounge, 136 E. Bagley Road.  Stop by Alumni Weekend Headquarters to pick up your nametag, reunion favor and tickets for Alumni Weekend activities.  Advance reservations appreciated by May 11th.

1:30 p.m  CHECK IN     2:00 - 4 p.m.  BEREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY & ADAMS STREET CEMETERY TOUR The tour will begin at the Berea Historical Society's Mahler Museum at 118 East Bridge Street.  Dr. Indira Gesink, Chairman of B-W's History Department, conducted a student/faculty research program to rediscover the lost histories of those buried in Berea's Adams Street Cemetery.  Dr. Gesink will talk about the program and lead the tour through the cemetery which is located across the street from the Historical Society.  Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to tour the Mahler Museum where Berea's and B-W's history comes to life.

2:00 - 4:30 p.m.  CAMPUS TOURS - Student guides will take you on a tour of the B-W campus.  You have the option of walking or riding.  Tours leave on the half-hour from the West Lobby of the Lou Higgins Center (parking lot entrance).  Sign-up in Alumni Weekend Headquarters.

2:30 - 3:30 p.m.  Estate Planning "Tips for Getting it Straight" Lou Higgins Center, Conference Room 170 A & B.  Join us for an open conversation on estate planning.  B-W Staffers Tom Konkoly '68, Mike Walczak and Marylou Hunter will share stories and examples from their 75 years of estate planning experience. Come and observe, bring questions and participate in a lively conversation! 

3:30 - 4:45 p.m.  CLASSES OF 1938, 1943, 1948, & 1953 SOCIAL HOUR  Lou Higgins Center, Tressel Lounge, 2nd Floor, (elevator accessible).   Complimentary refreshments.  

5:00 – 7:00 p.m.   SENIOR ALUMNI PICNIC - Lou Higgins Center, Field House.  Members of the classes of 1958 and earlier are complimentary guests of the College.  Other alumni, spouses and guests are $10.00.

6:00 - 9:00 p.m.   CLASS OF 1978 HAPPY HOUR - Bucci's Restaurant, 1 Berea Commons

7:00 – 9:00 p.m.  Class of 1958 Social - Ernsthausen Hall, 171 E. Center St. The Class of 1958 and guests are invited to gather in the lounge of B-W's newly renovated Ernsthausen Hall for an evening of conversation, snacks and music of the 50s.  Complimentary.

7:00 - 11:00 p.m.  WBWC "MEET & GREET" - Student Activity Center, 96 Beech St. B-W's radio station is 50 years old and celebrating its anniversary this weekend.  The celebration begins with an open house "meet and greet" in the SAC (formerly the women's gym).  If you were involved with WBWC, you are invited to attend!

SATURDAY, MAY 17

8:45 - 9:30 a.m. "WAKE UP WALK" - Meet at the Lou Higgins Center, West Entrance (parking lot side).  Start your day with a guided "wake-up" walk around campus with Mary Stein '98.  Energize your day and enjoy B-W's beautiful campus.  Complimentary continental breakfast after the walk in the Lou Higgins Center.

9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.  ALUMNI WEEKEND REGISTRATION & HOSPITALITY AREA - Lou Higgins Center, Harding Lobby.  Stop by Alumni Weekend Headquarters to pick up your nametag, reunion favor and tickets for Alumni Weekend activities. 

9:00 - 10:00 a.m.  CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST, Lou Higgins Center, Harding Lobby.  Enjoy complimentary coffee, tea and pastries.

10:00 a.m.  TRESSEL FIELD "GROUNDBREAKING" EVENT - Finnie Stadium.  As part of B-W's Transforming Lives Comprehensive Campaign, Finnie Stadium's track and field will undergo a $2 million renovation.  Please join Dick Tressel '70, Dave Tressel '73 and Jim Tressel '75 as we recognize the contributions of the Tressel Family and honor them with the naming of Tressel Field at Finnie Stadium.  (Rain location-Ursprung Gymnasium, Lou Higgins Center)

11:00 a.m.  ALUMNI COLLEGE - "Relive B-W's Glorious Sports History' - Lou Higgins Center, Tressel Lounge, 2nd Floor  A panel of B-W's Hall of Fame Athletes including Harrison Dillard '49,  Bob Hecker '50, Lee Templeton '48 and Ted Theodore '51 will discuss their memories of the "Good Old Days" in B-W's athletics, the competition that they faced and the coaches and teammates who helped make it all possible.  This is the 60th anniversary of Harrison Dillard's Olympic victories (London 1948).

11:30 a.m.  THEATRE/CONSERVATORY ALUMNI FAUX PAS GAME – Baseball Diamond at Klein Hall Field  The 26th+ annual theatre alumni "softball game".  Just show up.  No pre-registration necessary.

12:00 p.m.  ALUMNI WEEKEND LUNCHEON & ALUMNI HONORS - Lou Higgins Center, Field House  All alumni and guests are invited.  Special recognition of 2008 Merit Award honorees-Jerry H. Czech ‘64, Harry E. Hershey ‘58, Dr. John W. Hoyt ‘67, Dr. N. Jane McCandless ‘79 and William E. Nichols ‘63 and the Family Heritage Award-The Bauman Family.  Members of the Class of '58, B-W volunteers and honored guests are complimentary.  Luncheon $15, children (8 & under) $8.

1:30 - 3:30  CLASS OF 1978 PICNIC - West Lawn, Strosacker College Union, 120 E. Grand St.  (Rain Site-Carmel Hall Lounge, 1st. Floor)

2:00 – 4:00 p.m.  VISIT THE HISTORIAN’S HOUSE, 345 Beech St, next to the Alumni House.  See B-W’s archives and other items from B-W’s collection of historic memorabilia.

2:00 - 4:00 p.m.  NAVY V-12 REUNION & SOCIAL - Tressel Lounge, 2nd Floor, Lou Higgins Center  This is the 65th anniversary of the Navy V-12 Program.  Bob Eide '48 will share his memories of the "Navy Years" at B-W.  Everyone is invited.

2:00 - 4:00 p.m.  BURRELL OBSERVATORY OPEN HOUSE - SUN VIEWING - 42 E. Fifth Street  Burrell Observatory is one of B-W's hidden gems.  The observatory will be open during the day to observe the sun (weather permitting) and again in the evening from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. to observe Saturn.  Gary Kader, director of the Observatory, will be available to answer your questions.

 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.  REUNION DINNER – Lou Higgins Center, Field House  Special reunion dinner for the classes of 1978, 1973, 1968, 1963 and 1958. All alumni and guests are welcome.  Celebrate your reunion with an evening of friends, food and fun. This is an evening that you won’t want to miss.  Special entertainment for the evening will be provided by the Joe Mayer Orchestra.  This 17-piece big band is led by Joe Mayer '51.  Casual dress.  Tickets for alumni, spouses and guests are $25.00.  Members of Class of 1958 are complimentary. 

6:00 - 11:00 p.m.  WBWC ANNIVERSARY DINNER - Crowne Plaza Hotel, 7230 Engle Rd., Middleburg Heights  Additional information is available on their Web site at www.wbwc.com/alumni.  The cost is $50.00 per person payable to WBWC.  To make reservations, please contact the general manager at (440) 826-2145 or e-mail alumni@wbwc.com.     

9:00 - 11:00 p.m.  BURRELL OBSERVATORY OPEN HOUSE - SATURN VIEWING, 42 E. Fifth Street  The observatory will be open to observe Saturn (weather permitting) Gary Kader, director of the Observatory, will be available to answer your questions.

 SUNDAY, MAY 18

SUNDAY WORSHIP - A list of area churches is available at Alumni Weekend Headquarters

 Noon - 2:30 p.m.  BUFFET LUNCH - The Colony Dining Room, Strosacker College Union is open for Sunday buffet lunch.  Buffet includes chef carved meat, soup, salad bar, dessert bar and beverages for $10.95.  Please make your reservations by calling the Colony Dining Room directly at (440) 826-2411.

On-Campus Housing
The Carmel Center for Living and Learning (B-W's newest residence hall) will be available for alumni and their families.  The cost is just $10.00 per person per night.  Sheets, towels, pillow and blanket will be provided.  You may wish to bring your own alarm clock, hangers, soap, shampoo, etc.  Rooms will accommodate two persons.  The hall is air-conditioned and has semi-private baths for each suite.  Check in after 12:00 noon on Friday at Alumni Weekend Headquarters in the Grindstone Room of Strosacker College Union.  Check out by 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.  A $10.00 deposit for your room key will be refunded when you check out.  Please indicate the number of persons and the number of nights on the reservation form.

Recreation Center
Alumni and their families can use the facilities at the Lou Higgins Center free of charge and subject to availability on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Please call the Recreation Scheduling Desk at (440) 826-2285 for pool hours.  Don't forget to visit the Athletic Archives in the Ursprung Lobby.
