Art 237: Seminar in the Study of Art and Culture in Northern Italy (4-credits)

This seminar is an intensive investigation of the concept of early modernism as seen in the politics, religion, and social interaction of Northern Italy, from the end of the middle ages to the end of the Baroque period. Students will focus on painting, sculpture, and architecture, as a way of understanding the profound changes that took place in the western society between 1250 and 1800. Students will learn how these ideas shaped what we now call modern Europe.

Dates: May 11-May 25, 2008

Location: Milan,  Ravenna and Venice

Cost: TBD (but is estimated at about $3500)
