The opera program at Baldwin-Wallace includes a full opera production each year as well as scenes programs staged as part of the opera workshop classes each semester. Operas are directed by guest artists from throughout the United States; past directors have included Gary Briggle, Rebecca Fischer, Michael McConnell, Dean Southern, Benjamin Smith and Ben Spierman. The opera workshop scenes programs are shared on-campus and often tour to local elementary, middle and high schools. Students of all majors are invited and encouraged to participate in B-W's opera productions. The program is headed by Artistic Administrator and Chair of B-W's Voice Department JR Fralick and Producer and Assistant Director of the Conservatory for External Affairs Bryan Bowser. Our next fully-produced opera will be Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld which will run February 11 - 15, 2009.
