Baldwin-Wallace Steps Up:

According to The Plain Dealer editorial, April 1, 2006

An editorial in The Plain Dealer reported, “Reinventing this region for prosperity in the 21st century requires the best efforts of many individuals and institutions, large and small. Higher education needs to be at the center of that reinvention, generating creative talent and providing a neutral setting for previously unlikely collaborations.

“The folks at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea understand that. And no one there gets it more than Peter Rea, the innovative head of B-W's business administration program. Under Rea's leadership, the college has launched a business plan clinic where faculty and students help entrepreneurs hone their ideas. It has offered office space to Glengary Venture Capital Fund; in return, Glengary's partners offer B-W students a ringside seat as the try to jump-start new or underperforming enterprises. It has given State Sen. Eric According to The Plain Dealer editorial Baldwin-Wallace Steps Up Fingerhut an academic perch from which he and his students have helped five suburban communities work through sharing fire services.

“Now, Rea and B-W President Mark Collier are uniting these diverse strands under an umbrella they call the Center for Innovation and Growth. The Center hopes to become a place where business, academic, political and scientific leaders can meet, share ideas and, with luck, develop even better ideas. As a prototype, B-W is pushing its business and science faculty to work together in the belief that technology will drive innovation – and prosperity.

“No single actor or action will restore Northeast Ohio's greatness. But a commitment to innovation in every walk of life – and the determined efforts of many actors – just might.”
